Deemed the brand's flagship property, the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, a Conde Nast Traveler's "USA – Gold List 2011" honoree, is located in the heart of the city's business and shopping quarters, affording stunning vistas of Victoria Harbour. Opened to the public in 1963, the waterfront hotel underwent a $150-million total renovation in 2006, which modernized the interiors while preserving its trademark Asian- and Western-influenced aesthetic. Some areas, including the lobby and famed Clipper Lounge, remain faithful to their original designs.

Guests can unwind with holistic treatments at the three-level Shanghainese-inspired Mandarin Spa, a five-star Forbes award winner. There are 501 guest rooms and suites featuring sleek high-tech accessories, and diners have their pick among 10 restaurants and lounges, including three with Michelin-stars. Additional on-site amenities include a fitness center, a salon and barbershop, and an indoor swimming pool. Meeting accommodations, many overlooking the harbor, are also available.

Interiors of the 2,100-square-meter Mandarin Spa mimic 1930s Shanghai, and the extensive holistic menu is inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern techniques found worldwide. There are eight treatment rooms, each unique in decor, lighting, and ambience, as well as two couple's suites with a private steam room and vitality pool with massage jets. A comprehensive heat and water circuit comprising a Chinese herb steam room, hydrotherapy Kneipp pool, experience showers, and Vichy shower is accessible to guests. Guests can browse the spa boutique after treatments; the hotel also houses an indoor pool, 24-hour fitness center, salon and barbershop.

In addition to its various massage services, body and hydrotherapy treatments, and facials, the spa offers staples like the Mandarin Oriental Signature Spa therapy, developed by TCM specialists and master aromatherapists, as well as Time Rituals™, scheduled blocks of time where the therapist and spa guest determine the best combination of treatments tailored toward the guest's needs.

Rooms & Dining

Contemporary and sophisticated, the 501 guest accommodations range from 32-square-meter standard rooms to the opulent 292-square-meter presidential suite. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic harbor views, while flat-screen TVs—both in the bedroom and bathroom—wireless Internet (available for a fee), iPod docking stations, and individually controlled lighting and climate control are some of the high-tech amenities. The 68 suites are individually themed and include the signature English-inspired Howarth Suite, outfitted with velvet textures and mahogany and walnut furnishings, and the Meiji Suite, where Japanese artwork and black lacquer-trimmed furniture are part of a tranquil aesthetic. The Lichfield Suite, a mod space of black, white, and red, pays homage to former photographer Patrick Lichfield, a regular hotel guest.

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, offers 10 restaurants and bars, including the two-Michelin-star restaurant, Pierre, which features a seasonally inspired menu of French fare in an elegant setting overlooking Victoria Harbour. In addition, there are two one-Michelin-star restaurants on site: The Mandarin Grill + Bar serves up expansive cityscape views and innovative dishes prepared with organic ingredients, while Man Wah is the hotel’s signature Cantonese dining experience. All three restaurants were also awarded the Wine Spectator 2011 "Best of Award of Excellence." Other options include Café Causette, a casual eatery providing healthful options, along with Asian and Western specialties. Nestled in a "secret" location in the hotel's kitchen is the Krug Room, where up to 12 diners share a communal table and sample tasting menus by Chef Uwe Opocensky—complemented by an extensive collection of Krug champagne. There is also the Clipper Lounge, which evokes a sophisticated ambience distinguished by mink, taupe, and Oriental decor; buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available, as well as afternoon tea. For a sweet treat, guests can enjoy pastries and desserts at the Mandarin Cake Shop.

On-site amenities include the 141-square-meter fitness center sporting PowerPlate and Kinesis equipment and personal training sessions, and an indoor swimming pool, located on the hotel's rooftop. Flexible meeting space totals more than 900 square meters and accommodates up to 600.

Guests venturing outside of the hotel are steps from some of the city's prime shopping, and dining and nightlife options along Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo (South of Hollywood Road) are five minutes away. Visiting Victoria Peak, known for its 360-degree harbor and island vistas, is a popular sightseeing excursion, as is a cruise across the harbor aboard the Star Ferry. History enthusiasts can explore the 19th-century Man Mo Temple, dedicated to the God of Literature and God of War, while cultural fans may want to schedule a visit during February through mid-March for the Hong Kong Arts Festival, celebrating international orchestras, theater, and entertainers. Day trips can be planned to the Disneyland theme park, located on Lantau Island, about 90 minutes from the hotel, or to the former Portuguese colony of Macau, a quick ferry ride away.
